Built on what's already here

Manchester already has great security and tech communities. OWASP Manchester, 2600 Manchester, Cybrewery and others have been running meetups and talks for years, and they kept the scene going while BSides Manchester was away.

What the city hasn't had is a day where security people, developers, platform engineers and product teams sit in the same room and learn from each other.

That's what we're building. We want to sit alongside the groups that are already here, send people their way, and give the whole scene a day to come together.

The previous BSides Manchester was run by a different organisation and stopped hosting events in 2020. We're a new team and a new company, starting small and growing carefully.

Ground Truth, October 2026

On Thursday 1 October 2026, around 70 people joined us at the GM Digital Security Hub (DiSH) in Manchester for Ground Truth: How Things Really Get Built, Broken, and Fixed.

Kay Daskalakis moderated a practitioner panel with Rio Sherri (NetSPI), Andy Shaw (Loxam), Graham Cook (Sedex) and John Watson (Swamp Club), followed by questions from the audience. Equixly then ran a live CTF while everyone ate, drank and chatted.

Thanks to DiSH for the venue, PortSwigger for refreshments and swag, Axiom Breach for AV, and Equixly for the CTF.

Before that, we held a preview night at AJ Bell HQ on 29 April 2026. Read about the preview night.
