Who we are
About BSides Manchester.
A community-led event reviving the BSides tradition in Manchester, built around the intersection of security, engineering, and the disciplines they depend on.
01 The movement
What is Security BSides?
Security BSides is a global grassroots movement of community-organised cybersecurity conferences. Founded in 2009, BSides events now run in cities across the world, from Las Vegas to London, from Delhi to Dublin.
Every BSides event is independently organised by local volunteers. There is no central BSides corporation. Each event reflects its own city, its own community, and its own priorities. What unites them is a shared belief that security conferences should be accessible, community-driven, and free from the commercial pressures that shape larger industry events.
02 The city
Why Manchester?
Manchester has one of the strongest technical ecosystems outside London. Financial services, healthcare, retail, government, research, and a deep startup scene all operate here, supported by mature local communities that have been organising meetups, talks, and gatherings for years.
What this ecosystem has not had for some time is a recurring, cross-disciplinary format where these communities can intersect. Security people, software engineers, platform and infrastructure teams, architects, product, and operations rarely find themselves in the same room for shared learning across disciplines. BSides Manchester is built around that intersection.
We are not trying to be BSides London. We are trying to be the event that the North West has been quietly missing.
That is what we are reconnecting to: the BSides tradition, in this city, on terms that work for the people already doing the work here.
03 Principles
Our mission
BSides Manchester is guided by three principles:
Accessibility
Low-cost tickets, free for students. Your budget should not determine your access to community.
Community first
Run by volunteers, for the community. No commercial agenda. Sponsorship supports the event but never dictates the programme.
Cross-disciplinary convergence
Security, software, platform, infrastructure, architecture, product, operations, and research in one room. Modern security problems are not isolated to security teams, and our programme reflects that.

05 The entity
A fresh start
The previous BSides Manchester was operated by a Community Interest Company (CIC) that stopped hosting events in 2020. This new BSides Manchester is a completely separate organisation, registered as BSIDES MANCHESTER CLG LTD, a private company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales (company number 17452076).
We are a new team with new directors, building on two community events in 2026: our April preview night at AJ Bell HQ, with 57 attendees and generous support from AJ Bell, and Ground Truth at DiSH in October, with around 70. Together they confirmed that there is genuine appetite in the city for a recurring cross-disciplinary day.
We are being deliberate about how we grow. We would rather build something sustainable and community-led than rush to scale. Every decision we make is guided by a simple question: does this serve the community?
